Neck Pain

Millions of Americans suffer from neck pain every year. Chances are, you have experienced this in some way. Stiff neck, whiplash, popping and cracking, when you move your head around, the overall nagging pain that just shoots up the back of your neck into your head, are just some of the symptoms of neck pain people most commonly suffer from. Some of these neck pains are actually debilitating, causing discomfort when doing the simplest of daily activities.

Causes of Neck Pain
Unnatural Spinal Curve: Your neck should have a natural “S” shaped curve to it. When you lose this curve, undo stress and pressure is applied to your neck.

Head Posture: This is the most common cause of neck pain. A lot of people have a situation where their head rests to far forward on their bodies. People who work desk jobs are the most likely candidates for this problem.

Misalignment: As with most chiropractic problems, when the spine is out of alignment, it causes undo pressure to different nerves. A misaligned spine could cause pressure, and even damage, on nerves in the neck.

Past Trauma: Past trauma can rear its ugly head later in life, in the form of neck pain. In fact, you might not have known you even had an injury. Causes could be sports injuries, whiplash, or incorrect posture as a teenager.

Treating Neck Pain
Like headaches, the most common act for people suffering from neck pain is to grab some over the counter medication and cover up the pain. When these over the counter drugs quit working, a doctor will prescribe prescription pain pills. These pills are addictive, and can lead to further problems down the road.

While medication can be good for relieving pain, it is important to find the problem causing the pain. Chiropractic care can do this. We have many ways of treating the neck pain, but it depends on the individual situation. The best way to find out what a chiropractor can do is to call and schedule an appointment with your Pittsburgh Chiropractors.
